Typos in the Nuwz…I Mean News: Rihanna, Brown, and the AP
The beating of singer, Rihanna, at the the hands of her abusive boyfriend, singer Chris Brown, is still a hot topic nine months later. You can read all about it in this short article off the MSN homepage: “Rihanna: Going back to Brown after beating ‘wrong.’”
It’s because this topic is still front page news that I chose to highlight a typo in this Associated Press article.
What The Associated Press published:
NEW YORK (AP) — Rihanna said Thursday that she regrets returning to ex-boyfriend Chris Brown after he left her bruised and battered during an February assault, warning other women facing domestic violence to not let themselves be blinded by love.
What copywriter Amber would have written:
NEW YORK (AP) — Rihanna said Thursday that she regrets returning to ex-boyfriend Chris Brown after he left her bruised and battered during a February assault, warning other women facing domestic violence to not let themselves be blinded by love.
The letter ‘n’. Who knew it could be so pesky?

Hi Amber! Thanks for visiting Brainripples. It’s always a pleasure to meet a fellow writer.
The grammar errors always get me – especially when they’re obvious like this one. Yesterday The New York Times published an article with a title that began with “A Ethical Question…” At least someone caught it and corrected it… today it says “An Ethical Question.” Much as these little errors make me squirm, what really bothers me is when I find them in my own work!
Do you follow the Times Topics blog feed? Philip B. Corbett always includes some great nitpicky topics. Recently I learned that I’d been incorrectly using the phrase “pore over” (by using pour instead of pore). Learn something new every day, right?
Glad we could connect.
Jade
Hi Jade,
I feel your pain. Errors in my own work make me put my hands over my eyes and shake my head. I did not know about the Times Topics, but I will definitely check it out. “Pore” instead of “pour”, huh? That’s news to me too. Thanks for sharing that.
Would you mind if I added your site to my Blogroll? I’d like to become a regular visitor.
Amber
Absolutely Amber, in fact I’d be glad to add you to my list of writer links as well. It has been a while since I updated my sidebar, so it’s time to retire inactive blogs and bring in some fresh faces.
JLB
That would be great! Thanks, JLB.
